sage leaves

In Seattle about 10 years ago I had deep-fried (?) sage leaves at a snappy restaurant. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I can't remember the ingredients and I'm not sure about the deep-fried part.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can fill in the blanks.
