Italian New Year's Traditions

Somewhere I heard that lentils - soup, I think - was an Italian tradition for a New Year's Day menu. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, what else other than soup is traditional? I would like to prepare a traditional Italian menu for NY day. Can anyone help?
