re-heating chicken

My wife and I are having a discussion as to wheteher it is safe to re-heat chicken. Years ago I got food poisioning from chicken bought from a supermearket rotisserie. The doctor told me that the chicken had probably been reheated and was therefore likely to have caused my illness. He said that chicken and turkey should never be re-heated.
Your opinion on this subject would be appreciated.
