Rice cookers

Hello everybody,
I am kind of new to the cooking world and I was wondering what the benefits of a rice cooker are? Does it make better rice, is it just more convenient or what? Perhaps all of the above? Just looking for some facts and advice on whether they are really necessary for quality rice.
